Monday 8 February 2010

I had my highlights done today by Jane from the Academy in Welwyn Garden City. She was here in the house for nearly 4 hours! She was lovely and it was wonderful to get them done. Then a phone call from the "Psycological medicine service" at the Marsden to see how we're coping as a family (and she thinks very well) - and will send some practical suggestions of appropriate things we can do. I then made it downstairs for Sophie's violin practice. But she wasn't really in the mood (too many late nights) so I ended up playing my violin to her. The first time in a wheelchair. Lost my balance a bit - well I am a "weeble" that won't correct itself! Can't do long bows either because the arm of the wheelchair gets in the way.
I've been fighting the tiredness all day, though and this evening I crashed out when the children went to bed until the district nurse came at 9pm to check my sacral dressing and other stuff. Where is my energy?!

Hey katie for a minute I was scared that Jane Nicholls :) did your highlights. I was relieved to know that it was done by a professional.
You have great inner strength which does not cease to amaze me.I would suggest you to use cushions to act as support on sides
so that you play violin.
Lot of love to you and family.

Good morning Katie,

Where is your energy?! It sounds like you don't actually stop all day. You've had busy days lately.

The highlights will definitely go well with the mermaid look when coming down the hill on Ian!

Have a nice day,
love
Christel

Dear Katie,

you seem to find and make use of more energy than the rest of us lazy bones, and we don't have any excuse! You have always, and continue to amaze, inspire, empassion and humble us all. If even half the world followed your shining example of dignified strength, the other half would sit up, take notice, and the world would be a much much better place.
Lots of love

Dearest Katie

So pleased to hear that you had a lovely day of pampering and some violin at the end. I'm sure Sophie loved seeing her gorgeous Mummy playing her violin. Maybe we should have a go at some violin and cello duos... no pressure, just an idea!! Sophie might like to listen to that too. Speak soon, lots of love xxxx

You seem to be full of energy to me. Always busy with visitors and your beautiful children, as well keeping your self looking more glamourous than most us will ever look.

My thoughts are always with you and your family.
Take care.

Lots of love Terri xxx

Darling Katie,
I know I see you every day and love being with you, Giles, Evie and Jane but I just wanted to say that some moments are just so precious. Such was last night when you picked up your violin again for the first time since you were paralysed. It took me right back to all those times when we played together and to how musical you have always been. You took up my love of music and now you have passed on that musicality to your children, especially Sophie who has a superb ear. It was lovely to hear you play solo and then with Jane, albeit on Sophie's violin. Marianne's idea of bringing her cello to play with you is great: are there any more musicians out there who would be willing to play with Katie? We could have a great time and it is such a great therapy!
It was a beautiful moment and I shall always remember it along with so many other precious things about you and the time we are having now my lovely daughter!
All my love as ever. Sleep well and see you tomorrow!

Hi Katie - I've just found your blog having spoken to Liz this evening. It's Sophie here, your ex pharmacy not-very-good-at-finding-the-tablets assistant from our Saturday job many years ago in Cuffley.
You have changed so little in your photos - and in your writing - and yet so much has happened since we last met up. It is lovely to see you and your beautiful family in your photos and great to hear that your children are already showing signs of your musical prowess.
I am sending you the most enormous virtual hug I can manage to say I am thinking of you and sending you lots of love (and energy!).
Sophie xxxx
