Friday 17 July 2009

It’s been a while. Haven’t managed to make time to keep this up to date, but in some ways I’d rather not – unless I change the title. I’m no longer fighting. Melanoma is a past chapter.
We’ve been busy – as always. Sophie has just done her first violin exam after receiving a crash course in sight-reading and aural this term. Sam continues to grow upwards and not outwards. He’s loving tennis and golf – when the weather’s good. Evie’s cutting molars and is on the verge of walking.
We were at the Marsden again yesterday for a check-up. All is well. The doctor I saw talked about how nearly a year on, Mr Thomas, my surgeon remembers and is proud of his success with me. My smile was not too crooked immediately after surgery (before the swelling kicked in). A reminder of just how lucky I am to be able to keep the face that I’m and everyone else is used to. But it’s also a reminder seeing the not so lucky people at the Marsden who have lost their hair/ are on crutches/ in wheelchairs etc. I’d like to watch “Farrah’s story” tonight. Although it will bring certain (now almost suppressed) feelings/ fears back into focus, it boosts my gratitude that I have been allowed to resume my normal healthy life.
We’re off to Menorca in a week. It’s the first time on an aeroplane for the children. And we won’t be thinking about this time last year…….!
